#rsrh …I give up; the post will not
gel. Just read this link. - Moe Lane - Moe Lane & Red State Blogger
I know, this sounds kind of strange for a daily link, but Moe Lane wrote this
one, and wanted people to read this one: Don’t trample on religious liberty. Being that is how I
ended up reading it, I thought it only right to give credit where credit is
due. It never seems to amaze me anymore when the secular forces do something like this. I understand that many of them would enjoy seeing the United States turn into a communist/socialist/fascist nation, but it is not that way, and the vast majority of people would rather see it stay the way it is. Never should a student have to get permission to wear a religious item to school and if I want to wear a cross around my neck that should be my choice and right.
Remember this. I think it is important to keep in mind how bad these election
things get. If you run for president, you
had better hope that your old friends still like you, because if they do not,
they will end up in an ad for the other side.
Mitt Romney’s first-world problems - Alexandra Petri -
Washington PostDid you know that on American Idol the producer mentioned that Mitt Romney sounded flat when he attempted to sink "America the Beautiful". I did not know that, and there is one simple reason for that. I would never watch American Idol, albeit this election cycle seems like the same thing; all anyone ever seems to care about is provoking the candidates to come up with politically inspired riposte. One would think with the nation being on the precipice of disaster, the moderator and the voters would care more about what is going to be done to fix things.
Police Finally Begin Clearing Occupy D.C. - Kevin Glass - Townhall.com
What stupendous news this is, why in the world are these people destroying things, I am mad at my government and I am not destroying things. This is exactly why the conservatives are going to have to start having more to do with educating this nation; when we allow the liberals to take over the colleges, we get a bunch of kids screaming about things they know nothing about. If they want to see a new level of freedom and prosperity, they should help the Tea Party push the power back to the states where their vote will really mean something. If they favor higher taxes on the rich, and if there is a majority in that state that feels the same, then they can tax the rich. In my view, the rich will leave the state, but that is their right. Do these people want to give or take; we are all in this together, right.
Republicans target health, education for cuts - David Rogers - Politico
This is an article from September of 2011, but I thought it was important to bring back up.
I am a huge proponent of a strong educational system in this country, that is the only thing I think would be a huge mistake if we do not all move forward. Student loan, Pell Grants, and other forms of assistance are the only thing that is keeping people like me in school. If the government wants to take away the grants, then increase the level of loans. I have nothing against paying everything I get back, but for the love of God, we cannot decide that we are too broke to educate or citizens. It is just too important to the country sustaining its greatness. Test score are down as it is, and even though we have issues with the Unions keeping us from replacing teachers, cutting spending has to be done in a way that will not force people out of school. We have so many other wasteful things that can be cut, and until those are cut, then any bill that seeks to reform education must not drive kinds out of college.
I really think conservatives should start thinking up better solutions than just cutting spending on education.
This is a tough situation for me. I do not like the government doing things like this, but at the same time, the government is acting like an employer when it gives people assistance. I can tell you this, I am usually instantly skeptical when the government, state or federal, does anything like this. My first thought is that it is being intrusive. The important distinction here is that when the government is paying someone like a job, they should have the same rights as that employee would; and in this case it is often that the person receiving the benefits are not doing anything to work for it, so they should at least be expected to not sit around all day and get high.
On a cautious note: we would not want the government to have the power to randomly drug test everyone, and right now that seems like something like that would never happen, but a law like this is one step towards that direction, and instead of a big step to get to testing everyone, the precedent would already be there.
