What to Read, Today's picks: Santorum Gives Voters a Reason to Pause (2/8/2012)

2/8/2012

The Case for Santorum - Mark Hemingway - the weekly Standard
I would say this is not that flawed of an argument, even if I am not fully signed on to Santorum yet.
Versus Obama, Santorum Fares 8 Points Better than Romney - Jeffrey H. Anderson - the weekly Standard
This could be the result of a few things. First being that Santorum is just more liked by the electorate than Romney, Paul, or Gingrich.
Second, the other candidates have only now begun to take Santorum serious, and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain the same momentum under a sustained assault that the Romney camp is likely to throw at him.
It is part of the many things I think Gingrich should not of done, some of the most worrying aspects of his character is his hubris, and this is something that I would not of advised him to do. I would have had other people do it for me.  This is politics after all.  But since Gingrich made this claim before yesterday’s romping by Santorum, even if it is only non-binding states, then maybe Gingrich should start to ponder whether it is time for him to give Santorum a free shot at Romney; on the flip side to that, Santorum did not give Newt that chance either.  Romney is the one who is happy about both of these candidates staying in this race.
STOCK Act embitters the House - Peter Schroeder - The Hill
This is a no-brainer; why not put the “Pelosi provision” inside this bill?  I love reading about how the house plays these games.  Why not, it is not as if the country is on the precipice of so many disasters or anything.
I do not think we would be sitting around talking about this if President Bush would have had a third term.  The Syrian people are being murdered, and the United States is doing nothing.  I liked it better when we thought stopping the senseless murder of innocent civilians was reason enough to take action.  This some Middle East should have been much more careful when they talked so much trash about Bush; our country was told we were going to do things in a way that made them happy, but the Syrian probably do not think that we are living up to that.
